Documents Required For Passport Application For Minors In Washington
Those who are under 16 must apply in person with their parents. While flying overseas, every minor, regardless of age, including newborns and infants, must have their passport.
Prerequisites for Passports
Visit the U.S. State Department website to learn about the requirements for current passport applications for minors.
Everyone who cannot apply by mail is required to appear in person. All minors (those under the age of 18) must show up in person. For specific restrictions pertaining to minors under 16, visit the website of the U.S. State Department.
Request a passport
Get a U.S. passport by performing the following actions:
From the website of the U.S. State Department, download a passport application.
Fill out the passport application (do not put your signs until you meet with a court clerk at your appointment)
Arrange a meeting with the Court to submit a passport application.
Bring everything you need to your appointment.
What to Carry
The following things are required for your passport application for minors.
- Applied for a passport in full (do not sign it until you meet with a court clerk at your appointment)
- Certified copy of your birth certificate or previous passport issued by the United States
- The birth certificate must be a certified copy for minors applying for the first time who are under 17.
- Minors 16 to 17 years old who previously held a passport are required to do so (no birth certificate needed)
- Children under the age of 15 with a prior U.S. passport must provide a photocopy of their birth certificate and that passport.

4. A clear photocopy of the front and back of the identification you're submitting to get a passport, which must match, should be on one page.
5. An image of your face that is 2 inches by 2 inches in size
- Pictures must be from the last six months.
- It must have a white or off-white background.
- Glasses are not permitted in passport photos.

6. Your application fee should be paid with a check or money order made to the "Department of State" (see Fees) - This fee is only payable in cash; credit cards are not accepted.
7. Pay for the Court's service charge via cash, cheque, money order, or credit card, payable to one of the renowned expedited passport companies.
Processing Times
Consult the website of the U.S. State Department for the most recent processing times for passports. For faster processing, you can pay an extra $60.
Applicant Status
You will be able to check the status of your minor passport application on the U.S. State Department website after submitting it to the Court.
